We confess Jesus Christ as Lord.
The Lordship of Jesus Christ stands at the center of the Christian faith.
From our beginning, Disciples have believed that confessing "Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God, the Lord and Savior of my life" is the essential and sufficient statement for membership within the church.
In making the "Great Confession" an individual joins with Christians throughout the ages in affirming who Jesus is and what He does.
The title of "Lord" refers to Jesus's death, resurrection, and ascension into heaven. It is a title of glory. At the same time, the affirmation is intensely personal: Jesus Christ is Lord of my life.
Each believer pledges to surrender the self to Christ judgment and mercy. For Disciples this confession is grounded in the belief that the gift of salvation is offered to all people.
It is a declaration of the universal character of the Lordship of Jesus for all people, in all time, through all history, to all of creation.
The Disciples recognize that this simple confession and acceptance of Jesus as Lord is only the beginning of an understanding of the meaning and grandeur of Christ's life for the whole of humankind.
In and through the community of the church, each Christian is called to live out the implications of the Great Confession for the sake of the world and the Glory of God.
